We are all for Director level events and do, honestly, plan to run them in other areas than London. But it’s great to see that Brabners Chaffe Street, Outsauce, Saffery Champness and RBS have created a new debating forum called “Recruitment Leaders”. The first event was last week and was a lively debate around the challenges and opportunities for the recruitment industry heading into 2013.
Ann Swain, CEO of APSCo set the scene for the senior agency representatives in the room with her perspective on the market – and the tone was generally positive; the economy, she said, remains challenging, but for those with an eye to expansion there is plenty of market share available. A move towards RPOs and in-house recruitment, alongside pensions auto-enrolment and a shortage of good recruiters, will present difficulties in 2013, but for dynamic agencies willing to embrace change and look for opportunities through diversification, the prospects look good. The key, she said, is for agencies to remain bold in their planning, hold firm on pricing and adopt new methods of working; new technologies, effective client and candidate management and a focus on sourcing creative excellence in candidates will help agencies to stay a step ahead.
AWR too was on the agenda with Paul Chamberlain from Brabners Chaffe Street providing an overview of the recent court cases around the issue; the most high profile of which Brabners successfully defended on behalf of its client, Monarch Personnel Refuelling (UK) Limited .
