Thinking of naming a bad payer on social media?

youowemeBack in April I wrote a blog asking Is it ok to use social media to “out” companies that owe you money?  In that I mentioned  an article on the BBC website about a freelancer who was facing legal action over her public outing of a non paying client (Lesley Kemp faces libel suit over Twitter comments).

The court case has finally come to conclusion and Lesley won her battle with Resolution Productions.  She blogs about it here.

Using social media to share the facts about an outstanding invoice certainly shouldn’t be considered libel but it took Lesley a long time and a hell of a lot of stress to prove that point. I’d still be cautious before naming and shaming.
