This year could see the UK’s employment landscape become a lot more bountiful and grow to the kind of heights it reached before the financial crisis.
The reason for the employment landscape improving could be that the country as a whole is beginning to get back on its feet financially. Another reason could be that some individual sectors, like the technology sector, are beginning to develop and create more job vacancies.
The technology sector has seen year-on-year growth in terms of vacancies, not only from well-established companies but also new, emerging businesses that are creating job opportunities as they expand.
London stands firm as the country’s primary technology cluster, but this is not breaking news – it has been this way for years. However, recently other cities have begun to blossom and as this infographic from online recruitment marketplace Hiring Hub shows, the top ten tech clusters are spread across the whole of the UK – from Brighton up to Edinburgh.
Manchester has risen to second in the top ten tech clusters because of the development of BBC’s media city, which has created an abundance of new technology and IT jobs in the region.
A recent study by High Fliers Research has revealed that there will be a 9% rise in recruitment this year, which boosts the optimism surrounding the employment landscape for 2014.
In 2013, there was 1 million job opportunities created in the tech sector, which was a growth of 4.3% from 2012. Looking ahead to the end of 2014, the UK’s tech sector could have created well over a million jobs if current growth is taken into account.
It is predicted that the most in demand tech sector jobs this year will be Computer Programmer, Networking Manager and Tech Support.
Employers will be interested to find out that the top 3 reasons for joining new tech companies, as stated by job seekers, is the share options, big name investors and rapid growth.
The private sector saw an average rise last year of 2.5%, despite this it has been outgrown by the tech sector for the last four years and that is expected to continue throughout 2014.
