How to be a successful leader? Recruitment Reinvented. Notes from the #rechangout

Yesterday’s google+ hangout was a bit of a taster for the Greg Savage masterclass taking place in September. It saw Greg, founder of Firebrand Talent Search and author of the Savage Truth, and James Osborne, CEO of the Elite Recruitment Network, join Alan Whitford and Louis Welcomme on the #Rechangout. The subject title was ‘How to be a successful leader? Recruitment Reinvented. Leading for Fun and Money.’

During the hangout a LOT of topics were covered.  You do really need to watch it to get the full picture.

We kicked off with how Greg has previously stated that the “attitude of business owners in recruitment is holding them back”, moving onto finding and hiring the right people (“digital natives”), what real leadership is about and incentivising incentivising recruiters.

Some of Greg’s blog posts reinforcing the messages from the hangout that I’d suggest you check out include:

I travelled 17,000 kilometres to tell the British recruiters this!
Three massive recruitment ‘people-blunders’
The best business advice I could EVER give you

The hangout also took another look at some of the topics (hiring recruiters and the craft of recruitment) we coveered in another recent hangout with Roy Ripper, Adrian Treacy and Graeme Read on Boom After Bust; How to take advantage of the upturn.

Whist you are checking out previous hangouts look up this one with Kevin Green where he talked about the changing business model needed to survive in the recruitment industry; How are successful recruiters adapting to the changing recruitment landscape?

Other blogs (all from the superb Roy Ripper) you might like to look at around the theme of being a successful leader include:

Top 10 Mistakes Made When Recruiting Recruiters
How To Set Goals For Recruiters
How to fail as a billing recruitment manager

I’d also really like to find a blog post on the research James mentioned on incentives for recruiters.  It had surveyed around 1300 recruiters in the UK to identify what were their top motivators.  In the top six, of a similar weighting, were salary and benefits, interest in the work itself,  advancement and actual recognition and the possibility of the role gaining new challenges.  The number one driver, however, was  personal and team/departmental achievement.  Very interesting when so many in the industry believe that money is the main motivator.   My next challenge for today is to find a speaker for our next Directors event to cover this!!

The next hangout is on 27th August and sees Jeremy Roberts, Editor and conference organiser at SourceCon – talking about Sourcing.
