You can’t help but have noticed all the job board advertising on the television since the start of the New Year.
We’ve got Jobsite with the lovely Max Beesley (who I find more scary than sexy in these adverts) , The Ladders with their tennis pitch invasion (their US advert is a lot more sexy) and TotalJobs with talking electrical appliances.
The adverts from TotalJobs were trialled in the North West (presumably as they are focusing on areas such as jobs in Manchester. I understand the rest have been nationwide from the outset.
A stat I saw years ago (the details of which I would share if I could find it!) was that whenever any job board advertises on radio or TV ALL job boards benefit. With 3 major players pushing job boards to the masses it’s no surprise that every job board Director I speak with is reporting a jolly good January! Good for them, good for jobseekers and good for recruiters….I hope!

Jobsite’s ad is definitely my favourite. Total 2nd, Ladders a distant 3rd.
I wonder if the sites would be able to share any ROI data with us? Fascinated to see if the ads have resulted in more business / revenue for the sites.
I am sure all the sites have seen an uplift in the number of users to the site. But as most of us in the business are aware, getting candidates to apply for jobs is not the problem.
Getting quality candidates to apply for jobs is the key.
My perception is that these campaigns are great for raising awareness, great for the big recruitment consultancies out there who are in the business of harvesting as many CVs as possible from the internet.
But not so great for the corporates who are looking to fill specialist positions with specialist candidates.
Most corporates do not have the technology in place to deal with 100s of irrelevant applications.
But that is another story.
