Not enough time to do your job

We’ve just relaunched our job board (catchingly entitled UK Recruiter Jobs) and I sent out an email to all the lovely rec to recs we list on our site saying they can have a free trial of the site.

I got a response back from one saying:

I’m manic and simply can’t spend time inputting jobs.

Eh?  So you are too busy to do your job?  What are you spending your time doing?  Finding vacancies?  Interviewing candidates (oh, you can’t be you aren’t advertising your jobs anywhere)?  Yes, I know there is more to placing candidates than just bunging jobs on job boards (ie, checking your own database, getting referrals, headhunting, etc) but honestly!

Well that’s the choice I guess – 3 minutes of input for multiple candidates that you can place and get paid for…or not!

Rant over.

  1. Louise, I spent a few years in R2R and have to say that being frantically busy seems to be a default mode for many in the sector!! It’s the standard answer given to candidates, clients and recruiters from other sectors.
The best comment I ever heard was ‘I’m that busy that if there were more hours in the day I still wouldn’t have time to do everything’??!! My answer was ‘well surely you must be doing something wrong then’
I’m sure that you wouldn’t want to name, but think it may make an interesting piece to interview said person and let us all find out the secrets of their success…or extent of their disorganisation!!

  2. It’s poor time management. So many people think that if they “look busy” (whether there’s any real output or not) people will be impressed.
In my opinion it’s also partly because of a new batch of recruiters who are only used to using one piece of software to post jobs to multiple boards. As far as they’re concerned it’s a one minute job.
Of course, so is copying and pasting a job advert elsewhere, but they’ve become indoctrinated to that way of working.
    Not sure if anyone agrees/disagrees.
