As a recruiter, you have a lot on your plate. You are dealing with so many jobs that it is all too easy for some candidates to slip through the gaps. It is crucial to find the time to keep a close eye on the movements of your candidates. Barry Cullen of introPROTECT shares his thoughts on why you need to police your introductions and contract finishers.
Often a backdoor hire happens without the candidate’s knowledge. They might be offered a role and not give much thought to who the recruiter was that introduced them to the client. Or your contractor/interim might take a permanent job or extend their contract direct with the client without understanding the impact on your business. For the most part you aren’t going to get a call from client or candidate to ask for an invoice, so if you aren’t keeping track how do you expect to know when a fee has gone missing.
Use the following tips to help less fall through the net:
- Remember communication is key – keep in touch with your candidates so you know where they are and what they are up to
- Keep checking – it is worth a quick monthly check of CVs snd social media to see if you can track them down yourself
- Remember to keep a log of all introductions that are made with dates and times – this helps if something does go wrong and you need help recovering lost fees
- Remember to ensure terms are up to date and sent over as soon as introductions are made – it is another way to protect yourself if something does go wrong
- Ask for help from the experts if you need it! Even with the best will in the world, some of these will still slip through the gaps. Now if only there was a business that could do this work for you and without any up-front costs…
I’ll be grilling Barry more on this topic soon in our live webcast show on 1st April – free to attend and ask your questions.
