Avoiding a (Conference) Hashtag Fail

London2015cFirstly, I’m not saying we’ve totally got this cracked ourselves; there are always lessons to be learnt.  However, when I spotted the hashtag being used by the organisers of The Inhouse Recruitment Expo it made me consider this a blog worthy topic.  They have chosen #London2015 for their two day conference. Yes, it’s taking place in London and yes it’s 2015 but I fear it might be a little generic.  Surely conference related conversation will be hidden amongst tourist chat?

Whilst you can’t stop someone else using your hashtag, even if you trademark it,  you should probably ensure it’s as unique to your event as possible. Here are my top tips:

London2015ba) Try and make sure no other events are using the hashtag you choose (a simple google search will help you determine this)

b) Make it relevant – maybe include an abbreviation of your conference name

c) Keep it short

d) Try to use real words or an acronym which will help people remember it
