Forward facing: upcoming trends in recruitment

Ahead of our tech event I asked one of our exhibitors, Access RDB if they could share their thoughts on the upcoming trends in recruitment.  I think this is a great blog from them.

We are always trying to understand what is coming in the future so we can prepare and be ready for it. There’s something unsettling about being caught unaware. We always want to be prepared. And that’s just us as humans, the minute you bring business into the mix, that urgency to understand upcoming trends and the market is even more pressing.

And while none of us can predict the future, we can look at the market today and make educated guesses on what the future might have in store for us. And then, we prep and we plan, and we do all we can to prepare for it.

Blind recruiting

Much has been discussed about the importance of blind haring previously and as the diversity war wages on, this is only becoming a bigger priority. We know recruitment agencies often struggle to pull together diverse shortlists, but companies are screaming for it even more and that need isn’t going anywhere. Businesses have cottoned on to the value and need for diverse workforces, and recognizing that they can’t always rely on themselves to provide it, are adopting scientific approaches to make it happen instead. Recruitment agencies looking to add value to their clients need to start becoming experts at blind recruiting.

Blended workforce

We’re in a period of huge historical, cultural and technological change and naturally, this will be reflected in the workforce of today. The rise of the gig economy flexible working and the increase of freelance contractors all change the way people work today. The conventional nine to five in a solid job for four plus years is a thing of the past. It’s practically laughable to think of it now. The world around us has changed exponentially and recruitment agencies need to make sure they’re factoring in that change in all their hiring efforts. That includes searching for talent globally as remote working breaks down boarders.

Digital and mobile

It sounds obvious, but as ever, it remains one of the top trends to always be aware of. Technology is moving so fast and as it remains a constant presence, it changes culture and the way we interact with one another, that’s the key. Not necessarily that a robot is about to come and do your job or a new app will be developed, but that the way we engage, consume information and build impressions all happens on the tiny robot in our pockets. Candidates now want to interact with their recruiters in a more social and informal manner, and they want to do it quickly and easily. That means long emails full of ‘interview information’ aren’t the go-to anymore, as platforms like WhatsApp take over as choice method of communication.

Performance reviews

Another archaic thing in the world of hiring that hasn’t been touched for years. It’s ripe for development and HR departments are continually looking for ways to assess and report on employee metrics. A younger generation entering the workforce also don’t want to wait an entire year for feedback and development opportunities, and often old performance processes don’t fit with a modern workforce. More companies are taking the step to assess their employees on results based performance management techniques. Recruitment agencies need to get ahead of this curve and offer clients new ways to assess employees as part of a solution based partner.
