The story about Aleksey Vayner has been running in the US for a week or so. He’s a Yale senior who produced a video interview of himself to append his (11 page!) CV. It appears there may have been one or two untruths in it. Jim Stroud does a nice little round up here and you can read the full story here.
It rather puts to shame my own best example of a lying candidate. Back when I worked for a recruitment firm We had a candidate whose CV said he had a Degree, 3 A’levels and a good range of O’levels. My boss had interviewed him and thought he seemed a little rough around the edges for some one with a Degree from a top University. After a little probing I found out that not only did he not have a Degree, he’d never been to University, hadn’t any A’levels and only had 3 CSE’s. We probably should have been alterted by the fact his CV read "Degree in English Lirtature".
There’s an interesting discussion about this subject on the Recruiting.com website. There are quite a few recruiters suggesting that a CV is a marketing tool and as such doesn’t need to give the complete picture of a candidate’s background. Obviously that’s differnet to directly lying about qualifications, etc, but isn’t ommission of data an untruth just the same?
Good comments… I bet (and I’ve heard this a lot) that he gets a gig just based on all the PR that he’s getting. While a laughing stock, everyone knows about this dude.
