Poor PR

I get quite a few press releases sent to me.  Most of them time I read them and then decide if I can use them in the newsletter or not.  Apart from the one where the chaps at a job board were growing moustaches for Comic Relief I don’t normally manage to have a giggle at them.

However, the one I got yesterday made me smile.  Not in a kind way I’m sorry to say.  Because I’m not a mean person (and I’m having a dig at the PR company – not the recruiter) I’m going to change the names to protect the innocent.

The story is that Clive has seen a gap in the market for a new IT recruitment company.  He sets up a recruitment company and then engages a PR company to help promote his business.  Unfortunately he appears to have a used a company that specialise in stating the bleeding obvious and/or target the under 12’s.  I can imagine them saying “come on clive, speak slowly and loudly and in words of less than two syllables”.

So Clive wisely tells us.. “It is not just about the client, it is about the candidate as well … it’s about both sides feeling wanted”.  Ah, how New Man.

He had decided to focus on giving his candidates the right encouragement and motivate them in the right way, after all “A motivated candidate is a good candidate”.  Urm, not necessarily.  A motivated candidate can be a right pain in the butt.

The press release also tells us that Clive “is continuing with his IT consultancy work so that he can keep up to date with what is going on in the industry and to continue to expand his contacts.”  To me that reads “Clive is hedging his bets in case it all goes belly up”.

But the last sentence will quash any concerns of that nature as we hear that Clive “thrives to succeed and reach that ultimate target of becoming number 1 in the recruitment industry”.  No small ambition there – number one in the whole recruitment industry.  Go for it, mate, reach for the stars!
