I was thinking how there aren’t a great many perks to being a recruitment blogger. Sure I get invited to events but so far have all been industry related and I’ve had to pay for my own transport and accommodation. Also, I’ve never got to hob-nob with anyone famous at them (well, except for Dan McGuire who is officially the most famous bloke in UK recruitment!).
I have been sent promotional “goodies”, which I do love getting, but really these have been pretty small scale (squidgy balls, pens, frisbees) and a very lovely lady sent me some flowers for writing something nice about her company.
However, what if I’d chosen a different industry to blog about. I could be attending sparkly parties with Katie and Peter Andre, reviewing polo matches with The Royals, hanging out on the set of Coronation Street (I have simple tastes!). Or reviewing expensive chocolates and wine for a food blog, road testing the latest shoes for a fashion blog. Or what if I’d chosen to be a sex blogger?!
Oh, well back to writing about video cvs, search engines and interview blunders.

Ahhh! Louise.
I do feel sorry for you. At least you can say you blog about a topic that effects everybody’s lives. Better that than writing about which fake tan Peter Andre uses.
I wish I could offer a better perk but what about lunch and a guided tour of ICAEW? I am mates with a bloke that was on the telly once, I could invite him along too?
keep up the good work Louise, some of us really appreciate it!
Luke
PS anyone know what fake tan Peter Andre does actually use?
But Louise, HR is sexy. Super Sexy even, according to John Ingram http://tinyurl.com/6qjjt7
Its never too late to change louise!
Louise, you must not be blogging about the right people. We got invite by IPC to the Nuts 2008 Babe Search Final at Cafe De Paris. Im told we met Poncho from Dirty Sanchez, Lucy Linder and Mario from Big Brother. Check out the pics at our Facebook fan page. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=33056&id=7801002634&saved#/album.php?aid=33056&id=7801002634
Hi Louise.
Great blog.
I find myself feeling the same way. While I am always excited about the craft of recruiting, people just don’t find it sexy. LOL
Keep up the great work. I will definitely keep following the blog.
Adrienne Graham
@Luke – Thanks for the offer, I never decline a free lunch!
@ Susanna – well spotted. Good effort by Jon to sexy up HR.
@ Jimmy – I’ll bear that in mind!
@ Jamie – Wonder why I wasnt invited to the “Nuts babe search” event?
@ Adrienne – good point. I do LOVE recruitment.
PS, Recruitment Nick has saved me the effort of writing a follow up post with his “8 reasons for blogging about your business”: http://recruitmentnick.net/2008/07/8-reasons-for-blogging-about-your-recruitment-business/
