July Directors Event Summary

juldirEarlier this month we held our latest Directors Only event at the RBS offices (with Monster, Talent Rover and ePayMe sponsoring). These are our small group learning and networking events specifically for Directors of recruitment businesses.

This one, with around 60 Directors in attendance, looked at Fishing for your own talent; tackling the hot topic of finding and retaining great staff for your recruitment business. We were joined by an excellent line up of speakers.

Jason Kennedy, ex MD of Manpower and now Group CEO of Grafton talked about how they rebuilt the Grafton business from the inside effectively doubling their consultant revenues in 36 months.

Paul Farrer (pictured above) has spent the last 20 years  helping build the Aspire Global Network (established originally as Phee Farrer Jones in 1992) with six specialist recruitment brands.  He has recruited hundreds of recruiters over these years and shared some of the mistakes he has made; what they’ve cost the business and the lessons learned.

Lisa Jones ran a semi-interactive session on using social media to find and attract  recruiters to work for you ..   even suggesting how to never pay a rec2rec fee again!

Luke Schanche worked in recruitment to recruitment for seven years before joining Astbury Marsden as their Head of Talent Acquisition. Luke lead a conversation on hiring, training and developing entry-level recruiters.

Ian Shephard has 20 years senior management experience in contract management, recruitment and training environments and talked about recruitment apprenticeships.

We got some great feedback which I’m sharing for the purposes of enticing potential attendees to future events…

  • Great event which I have recommended to other Director/Owners already for the future.
  • Really enjoyed honesty of speakers and their preparedness to share their mistakes as well as achievements
  • I enjoyed it more than I thought I would! I really enjoyed learning that other business leaders face exactly the same challenges as I do (to varying degrees). I took some interesting tips away from the meeting and will be sure to use them. It was practical and relevant and I did not get any hard-sell from anyone which was refreshing. I like business-practical sessions like this and the ability to share experiences with others. Thank you.
  • Great day and enjoyed networking with fellow recruitment peers.
  • Excellent session with some very successful, talented, relevant and entertaining speakers.
  • Another successful event – some good takeaway learning points, and a good mix of entertaining speakers.

Our last Directors event of the year is on 17th October and the theme will be “Growing your Recruitment Business“.  We’ve got “early bird” tickets at 75% off at present!
