Cliveden House – beautiful hotel and conference venue

clivedenI was lucky enough to be the guest of Absolute Corporate Events at Cliveden House this weekend.  Before I go any further I want to make it clear that they never asked me to write about the venue on my blog or to promote it in any way.  It wasn’t even implied.  However, it is such a lovely venue that I wanted to share.

Cliveden is a privately owned 5 Red Star award-winning hotel and is the sister hotel to the world-renowned Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa in Hampshire.  It’s just 10 minutes off Junction 7 of the M4.  So, certainly accessible for London based businesses.

As part of our stay we had a private champagne tour and the story of Cliveden is about 300 years of power, politics and parties.  It was originally built 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a hunting lodge where he could entertain his friends and mistress.  Since then it’s twice burnt down! If you stay you should read all the history and about the part if played in the Prufomo Affair!

The entrance hall is fabulous, the grounds are beautiful (National Trust property) and the majority of the bedrooms are very much as you might imagine them to have been in the early 1900s (but with decent plumbing).  There are some “up to date” touches and some of the bedrooms as more modern, there is decent wifi and the conference rooms are state of the art.    The restaurant is under refurbishment and they have a brand new chef who has just joined them.

CanningI didn’t get to try the spa or the outside pool (some people did!!) but apart from that feel quite well qualified to recommend the venue for either a personal treat or a team building or corporate event!
