As part of our 600 Interesting and Useful Things for Recruiters series I asked Enhance Media to write about something related to their upcoming event.
At Enhance Media, we evaluate the success of our online recruitment campaigns but in today’s fast-paced media world, it’s always important to anticipate the future. Below are our top ten tips for online recruitment which we will be discussing at our annual conference The Year Ahead.
1. Think outside the box
Online recruitment is constantly evolving as are candidate expectations. If you’re looking to raise awareness of your employer brand and attract a more informed candidate, it can pay to push the boat out on your digital attraction strategy. For example, when KPMG were looking to raise awareness of their graduate programme they used gamification.
2. Make sure your website is mobile optimised
A rapidly increasing percentage of candidates are viewing your website via mobile devices, therefore if there’s one thing you need to do in 2014 it’s make sure you have a mobile optimised website, otherwise lose key candidates at your peril.
3. Gen Y is online – are you?
Graduates are your future workforce and missing out on skilled young people will be more expensive for your company in the long-term. Facebook, Twitter, blogging and Instagram are platforms that young people turn to for information everyday including job opportunities, therefore it is vital for all graduate employers to have a social media presence.
4. LinkedIn will take over the world
LinkedIn is 10 years old but the last few years have seen a huge increase in usage for the platform. 89% of recruiters say they source candidates via LinkedIn and 48% say they use LinkedIn alone to post jobs. It’s always been a popular channel for experienced hires but last year its largest growing demographic was the graduate market.
5. Find out everything you can about Google
The technological giant is the world-dominating search engine, therefore it is essential that you give yourself a competitive advantage by making sure your website is fully optimised.
6. Make your job advert stand out
A well-written job advert improves direct sourcing by 67%. In 2014, make sure you learn the secrets of a persuasive recruitment message so that you attract the very best candidates possible.
7. Harness big data and strategy
Data and knowledge are the keys to a winning online recruitment strategy and the very best candidate attraction. It should inform your entire recruitment strategy from which channels to use and what messages to promote.
8. Video interviewing can save time
The recruitment process is a time consuming one and a lot of time can be wasted on the wrong candidates. Video interviewing brings the best candidates forward by streamlining the recruitment process, saving you valuable time.
9. Put the face back into interface
When running online channels, it’s important to remember the personal touch. Recruitment is a relationship driven industry and people buy people.
10. Measure everything
Online recruitment is unique in that you can measure your return on marketing spend whether you’re using social media, search engine marketing or evaluating the effectiveness of your website. In 2014, there is no excuse not to measure your online campaigns.
