This survey from One Poll (with an excellent sample size of 2,000 UK based respondents) caught my eye. It’s an interactive analysis of the most obstructive and unsympathetic people in the British workplace. It’s actually very interesting and goes one step further than the very popular infographics you see everywhere now.
Here are a few key points:
Almost 18% of those polled named the Human Resources department at their workplace as being the most obstructive and most likely to reject reasonable requests. It received almost double the amount of votes against the first runner up: the Finance/Accounting department.
The person most likely to be uncooperative and unprepared to help in a British workplace – or ‘can’t’ – is female, according to 54% of those polled. 46% cited a man as the biggest ‘can’t’ where they work.
From a list of professional and unprofessional personality traits, the top five that respondents recognised in their workplace ‘can’t’ were:
· Argumentative (65%)
· Confident (59%)
· Deceitful (47%)
· Unproductive/inefficient (46%)
· Completely committed to their job (41%)
From a list of professional and unprofessional personality traits, the top five that respondents felt their workplace ‘can’t’ did not have:
· Open, honest and frank (74%)
· Reserved and conservative (72%)
· Cowardly/weak (72%)
· Calm and collected (70%)
· Talkative, try hard to socialise at work (67%)
The good news is that majority of respondents (38%) felt that only ten percent of their workforce is unsupportive and unhelpful. Only 14 respondents overall felt they were in a ‘them vs. the world’ scenario at work, saying that 100% of their colleagues offered them no help or encouragement.
