This week’s hangout certain created a lot of online chatter. We were joined by Tony Restell, founder of Social Hire, and Clair Bush and Steve Barnhurst from Broadbean to discuss “is there still a role for job boards?” Unfortunately Alan Whitford suffered technical problems so Mark Stephens (Technology in Recruitment Alliance and F10 Group founder) stepped in to host the show. Louis Welcomme from Colleague Software chipped in with his thoughts and questions throughout the show.

We kicked off with by talking about whether “social” might replace job boards as an attraction method (no) and whether job boards were just for active jobseekers (as Steve pointed out – what exactly IS wrong with active jobseekers?).
A few key points from the hangout are:
- According to Broadbean stats (from last month) whilst social networks may display a lot more adverts than leading job boards it’s the job boards that are winning in terms of getting applicants to respond.
- It was agreed that as hiring picks up the usage of job boards (and the number of applications received) will likely increase; especially in the niche/specialise areas.
- Looking at a slightly closer union between job boards and social media – the best job boards will incorporate the ‘best of social’.
- Broadbean have 30-50 new integrations with job boards worldwide each month
- Recruiters can get the best results from their job board postings by crafting good quality job adverts.
