Radical trends that recruiters need to know about – reflections on #trulondon – Notes from the #rechangout

For this week’s google+ hangout we were joined by Bill Boorman summarising some of the conversations from his recent #trulondon event.  Louis Welcomme and Mark Stephens joined the call. The subject title was ‘Radical trends that recruiters need to know about – reflections on #trulondon’

At nearly 45 minutes long you do need to watch the whole thing for the full Bill Boorman effect. However, these are a few things Bill touched on during the hangout:

Sourcing

More and more agencies are looking at sourcing as a discipline rather than a low skilled, entry level position as historically it has been. Resourcing is searching for CVs whereas sourcing is finding people in hidden places, who works at what company and what they do. It’s a real science and method. The market is recognising that sourcers are different to recruiters and have a different talent and skilset.

Data (he did mention “BIG data”)

There is a need to be able to gather and analyse data effectively. Recruiters should be utilsing technology to look for trends and understand the information being gathered within their business. The best companies to can analyse and then target on time to fill on positions, how likely they are to place certain assignments, etc.

Collaboration

Aiming for the free flowing of data between applications. How to make the tools you use Eg, LinkedIn, your CRM, Job boards talk with each other. This is a technie piece that I hope we’ll also cover at our Technology Showcase Event.

Mobile

You need to have a mobile strategy “if you don’t have a mobile strategy then you are stupid and you don’t deserve to be in business”

Mobility

Changing the attitude of a recruitment business to meet the needs of your consultants, clients and candidate. Consider looking at the whole issue of work hours and instead look at staff output. If you are doing this then you can utilise technology to allow recruiters to work where and when is best for them.

Getting innovative

The best time to look at new ways of revenue generation is when things are going well. Don’t wait until your back is against the wall – experiment and innovate now.

Bill has written some great whitepapers for Colleague in recent times and I’d suggest you check out:

From Transaction to Relationship Recruiting: The Agency Opportunity

15 agencies who did something different

New Model Agency

He sparked some twitter activity with a few of his soundbites including:

“recruitment companies are mostly run by people who don’t trust their employees”

“most of the people who run a recruitment business have done so on the fact of stealing a business off someone else who they once worked for”

“if you have to sell a job to a candidate the match is wrong”

However, as someone else on twitter said “I could listen to Bill all day long”

PS If you want to hear more from Bill he’ll be joining us at the UK Recruiter Technology Showcase Event on the 16th October.  He’ll be on hand all day as one of our experts and also running an workshop.  You can book tickets here
