If you want clients to take your candidates without paying, then you can stop reading now. Otherwise, you should definitely read on because this minor shift in your working habits, suggested by our partners introPROTECT, will immediately reduce or even entirely prevent backdoor hires. Over at introPROTECT we are always exploring ways to ensure recruiters PREVENT backdoor hires, but we also want to ensure that when the worst happens, we can easily DETECT & RECOVER them.
This one is awesome! Instead of sending the candidate’s name and/or actual CV for the first approach, hook the client with a snappy summary of why this is a candidate they need to hire; all without giving the candidate’s identity away!
Writing a mailshot teaser is a great tool as part of selling a candidate in to your client and here’s why you should be putting in the effort to write them:
Agreeing terms. We all know about deemed acceptance of terms, what better way of getting a prospective client to agree your terms than asking you to introduce the candidate in the first place?!?! (Remember to send your terms with the teaser though!).
Protecting a candidate’s identity is a strong line of defence in preventing backdoor hires. Well that’s obvious isn’t it? Just removing their name from the CV isn’t enough though, anybody can copy & paste a sentence from a CV into job boards/Linkedin etc. and find out who your candidate is. We often see clients saying that they didn’t know who the candidate was because of “no name on the CV” (but we’re calling ******** on that old excuse!).
You are protecting the introduction. A killer summary pitch email not only protects the candidate’s identity, but it also protects the introduction fee. If the client is hooked by your summary and requests the full CV, the introduction coming from you is then undeniable.
It proves your worth as a recruiter. Not that there was any denying it, but this extra effort shows you aren’t just blindly sending out CVs in the hope that one fits. You are providing an insight into the candidate that goes beyond the standard CV format.
You are the expert in selling the candidate. Many people aren’t great at selling themselves, but recruiters know how to sell candidates. Yes you can help them revamp their CV, but your unique perspective in a paragraph selling the candidate is a very nice touch too.
GDPR. Since the changes were enforced, most of us are trying to be careful with sensitive data being shared. If you don’t share the candidate’s name and CV in a mailshot, you’ve protected them from potential privacy or data breaches.
In around just 30-50 words, you can say so much about the candidate whilst protecting their identity. Of course, the full CV will then provide the detail needed to get the interview booked, but a teaser adds an extra personal approach giving the client and candidate confidence in you as a recruiter, as well as providing a great level of security against backdoor hires.
