Really relevant to the recruitment space. Millions of UK workers feel unsafe when travelling to meetings, according to alarming statistics revealed in a new report.
Capita Travel and Events found that only 35% of workers always feel safe and secure when travelling for work. More than one in four female employees (27%) said they have had to walk somewhere where they felt unsafe when heading to a meeting and just under a quarter (23%) feel they have had to park in a place where they don’t feel safe.
Safety concerns are just one of the factors highlighted in Capita’s report ‘The unnoticed impact of business travel’.
The report also demonstrates how travelling for meetings can also have a negative effect on an employee’s physical and mental health – and how too few businesses put any focus on wellbeing when planning their meetings and the travel arrangements for their workforce.
It found:
- Only 28% of people feel their workforce handles travelling to meetings in a ‘smooth and effective’ way.
- 41% of people are forced to work beyond their core hours when travelling for work.
- One in six workers struggle with their mental health when travelling to and from meetings.
