This post by Paiger is part of our blog series, “The One Thing Recruitment Leaders Should Change Right Now”.
If there’s one thing recruitment agencies should change over the next 6 months, it’s this:
Stop viewing AI as a tool, and start rebuilding recruiter workflows around it.
Most agencies are still approaching AI tactically. They’re using ChatGPT to write the occasional LinkedIn post or email, experimenting with automation tools, or trying isolated AI features inside existing platforms.
But that isn’t the real shift.
The agencies that will outperform over the next few years are the ones that rethink how recruiters actually operate day-to-day.
Recruitment has historically been built around manual effort:
- Searching for jobs
- Researching companies
- Writing outreach
- Preparing candidates
- Creating content
- Updating systems
- Repeating the same administrative tasks every day
AI changes that completely.
For the first time, recruiters can spend less time gathering information and more time applying judgement, building relationships, and having commercial conversations.
That’s the opportunity.
But there’s also a danger.
Right now, a lot of agencies are accidentally creating more noise rather than more value. Recruiters are generating generic AI-written outreach, publishing low-quality content, and automating activity without improving relevance or timing.
The market will become saturated very quickly with agencies using AI badly.
The winners will be the agencies that combine AI with real recruiter expertise, market intelligence, and strong personal branding.
We’re already seeing this shift happen.
The most forward-thinking firms are moving away from “high activity” recruitment models and toward intelligence-led recruitment models. Instead of asking recruiters to simply make more calls or send more messages, they’re helping consultants identify where demand is most likely to emerge, understand which businesses are genuinely worth targeting, and position themselves visibly within their niche.
That’s where AI becomes transformational.
Not because it replaces recruiters, but because it removes friction from the parts of the job that don’t create value.
At Paiger, a huge amount of our focus is now centred around helping recruiters use AI practically:
- Surfacing hiring signals and opportunities before competitors
- Turning market intelligence into commercial conversations
- Helping recruiters build visibility and authority on LinkedIn
- Automating repetitive admin and research
- Giving consultants a clearer daily revenue plan
The agencies embracing this shift early will create a major advantage over the next 12–24 months.
The ones that treat AI as “just another tool” risk falling behind very quickly, and the ones that see AI as a replacement for building relationships will be extinct.
My bio:
Darren Westall is the co-founder and CEO of Paiger, the AI Revenue Platform for Recruiters.
After rising to CTO at Broadbean, Darren left to build a platform focused on one challenge: helping recruiters generate more revenue in a market being rapidly reshaped by AI.
Today, Paiger is used by more than 750 recruitment agencies worldwide and has twice won APSCo’s Innovator of the Year award. The platform combines AI, hiring signals, recruiter branding, market intelligence and automation to help agencies win business, build visibility and operate more efficiently.
Darren is known for his direct views on the future of recruitment and the role AI will play within it. His core belief is that AI should enhance recruiters, not replace them, by removing repetitive admin and surface-level activity so consultants can focus on relationships, judgement and commercial conversations.
Through Paiger, Darren works closely with recruitment leaders to help agencies adapt to the next era of recruiter productivity.
