This post by Shazamme is part of our blog series, “The One Thing Recruitment Leaders Should Change Right Now”.
If I could encourage every recruitment leader to change one thing over the next six months, it would be their online digital strategy.
For years, recruitment agencies have invested heavily in job boards, referrals, LinkedIn activity and traditional SEO. While these channels still have a place, the way employers and candidates discover recruitment agencies is changing rapidly.
Today, people are increasingly turning to AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude to find recruiters, research markets and compare suppliers.
Instead of searching Google for “best technology recruiter in the UK”, they’re asking questions like:
- Who are the leading technology recruitment agencies in Birmingham?
- Which recruiters specialise in cybersecurity talent in Manchester?
- What recruitment firms are recommended for scaling businesses?
Here’s the challenge. Nobody can tell you exactly what people will ask AI. Unlike traditional search, there are endless ways people phrase questions, and every prompt can be different. That’s why it’s no longer about ranking for a handful of keywords. It’s about building a strong digital presence that gives AI plenty of trusted information to work with.
The agencies that appear in AI recommendations are not always the biggest. They are the agencies that AI can understand, verify and trust.
The reality is that many recruitment agencies are excellent at what they do but remain almost invisible online.
If AI cannot clearly understand who you help, what sectors you specialise in and why you are credible, it is unlikely to recommend you.
So where should recruitment leaders start?
1. Test Whether AI Can Find You
Open ChatGPT and ask the questions your clients might ask.
- Who are the leading recruiters in my sector?
- Which agencies specialise in my industry?
- Who are the top recruiters in my location?
- Which recruiters have the best reputation for manufacturing recruitment?
If your agency isn’t appearing, that’s a sign your digital visibility needs attention.
Remember, there isn’t one “correct” AI search. Every person asks questions differently, often using prompts of ten words or more. The more complete and relevant your online presence is, the more likely AI is to understand and recommend your business.
2. Make Your Website Answer Questions First
One of the biggest shifts in AI search is that pages need to answer questions immediately.
Many recruitment websites still lead with generic marketing statements about being trusted experts.
Instead, every important page should quickly explain:
- Who you help
- What you recruit
- Which sectors you specialise in
- Where you operate
- Why clients and candidates should trust you
Think of it as answer first, then prove it.
AI and search engines are looking for content that is easy to understand, easy to crawl and easy to cite.
3. Build Trust Through Proof
This is where many recruitment agencies miss a huge opportunity.
AI doesn’t just look at what you say about yourself. It looks for evidence that supports your claims.
Make sure your website includes plenty of proof, including:
- Client testimonials
- Candidate testimonials
- Google Reviews
- Case studies
- Awards and industry recognition
- Consultant profiles and expertise
- Success stories
- Salary guides and market insights
The more evidence you publish, the more confidence AI has in recommending your agency.
At the same time, make sure your website, Google Business Profile, social channels, directories and contact information all tell the same story. Consistency builds trust with both people and AI.
4. Create More Expert Content, But Keep It Human
Many recruitment websites contain little more than job listings and service pages.
The agencies that will win in AI search are publishing valuable content that demonstrates genuine expertise.
Examples include:
- Salary guides
- Hiring trends
- Market insights
- Candidate advice
- Employer branding resources
- Industry-specific thought leadership
- Downloadable guides
- Consultant insights
Don’t write for algorithms. Write for people.
Answer real questions, solve real problems and share genuine expertise.
One simple tip is to link related pages together throughout your website. Internal links help search engines and AI understand the relationship between your content, making your expertise even clearer.
Freshness also matters. Regularly updating your content signals that your agency is active, relevant and knowledgeable.
5. Create an LLM Information Page
One of the simplest but most effective things you can do is create an LLM Information Page.
Add it to your website footer and link to it from other relevant pages.
Think of it as a page that summarises your entire business for Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
It should clearly explain:
- Who you are
- What you do
- Which sectors you recruit for
- Locations you cover
- Key services
- Specialisations
- Client success stories
- Links to important pages across your website
Update this page whenever you add new services, sectors or content. The more accurately AI understands your business, the more confidently it can recommend you.
The Future of Recruitment Visibility
Many agencies still measure success by Google rankings alone.
That is no longer enough.
Today’s digital visibility depends on:
- Authority
- Expertise
- Trust
- Testimonials and reviews
- Case studies and proof
- Fresh, regularly updated content
- Structured website information
- AI discoverability
Google remains incredibly important, but it is no longer the whole market.
Platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Copilot are already influencing how employers and candidates research recruitment partners. Bing, YouTube and Reddit are also becoming increasingly important sources of information for AI.
The agencies that invest in their digital presence today will strengthen their visibility, authority and lead generation tomorrow.
Those that don’t risk becoming harder and harder to discover.
The question is no longer whether AI will change how people find recruitment agencies.
It already has.
The real question is whether your agency will be visible when AI starts creating the shortlist.
If you’re unsure where to start, consider getting an AI Visibility Audit. It will quickly identify where your agency is performing well, where you’re missing opportunities and what practical steps you can take to improve your AI discoverability.
