In “Today’s News“, from Recruitment International, David Head reports that the “The Advertising Standards Authority has told Portfolio Payroll to amend its advertising following a ruling whereby it could not substantiate claims to be market leader”.
I thought I’d see if I could find out more about the case. I went to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) website and found a fascinating resource. ASA Ajudications (which are apparently “guidance to the industry on how the advertising codes are to be interpreted and act as a record of ASA policy for consumers, media, government and all parts of the advertising business”) are listed on the site – going back to 2002.
For the Portfolio Payroll case you can view a document which shows who the complainants were and what their “issues” with the advert were. You can see the rulings from the ASA on each part of the issue.
I couldn’t stop there so had a look through some recent rulings from other adjudications. I was amazed by a) the things people complain about and b) the audacity of some companies in their advertising campaigns.
I will be keeping an eye out for more recruitment related cases.
