How Job Seekers Can Stand Out in the Covid Recession; ZipRecruiter’s Future of Work Series – Live Webcast

This week was the second in a series of six live broadcasts in which we are bringing recruiters, business leaders and jobseekers some really great content with our partner ZipRecruiter; who are well known for their Future of Work Report.

Each show has a unique topic but I’m delighted that each time my guests are ZipRecruiter’s Labour Economist, Julia Pollak, and Client Strategy Lead, Mary Ball.

You can see show one here: 3 Ways The Covid Recession is Unique.

This week we talked about what is it like for job seekers right now and what they can do to secure the best next role.  The environment in which job seekers find themselves is very different now from the one they faced before the pandemic.  First, relative scarcity and bargaining power have shifted more suddenly from job seekers to employers than ever before.   In the U.S. for example, there were a million more job openings than unemployed workers for 18 months before the crisis, but now there are twice as many unemployed workers as job openings.  In the UK, the unemployment rate is likely to hit a staggering 10% by the end of the year, up from 3.8% at the start of the year.  Secondly, recruiting and onboarding have moved online—and so have many jobs. That’s why it’s now essential to be tech savvy and connected, and to have a conducive work space at home—which can pose it’s own challenges.   You can watch the whole session right here:
