Dan McGuire at Broadbean shared some interesting facts with me. He was doing some research for a conference he was talking at. He looked at the number of vacancies being posted across different media by Broadbean over two time periods. If you want to know more about their job posting system there is information here
In February 2006 Broadbean posted 130,000 vacancies in 30 days on the top three paid for job board groups (eg, for TotalJobs that includes all the sub sites; cwjobs, retailchoice, etc). During the same time period they posted 60 jobs to the careers site’s of newspapers (eg, Guardian’s online presence).
In September 2006 they posted 180,000 vacancies to the top three paid for job board groups versus 5,000 to newspaper career sites.
Probably the main reason for this increase is that historically they would tie online and print publishing together in one (expensive) package. Also, until recently not all the major newspapers had integrated with sites like Broadbean. With the ongoing increase in online advertising spend they need to explore every avenue to ensure there share of the market. If you want to know more about the reasons behind the trend that Dan has seen take a look at Tim Elkington’s blog (Tim is an expert in online recruitment and print media).
I’m going to ask Dan to keep me updated with these figures. It should be safe to say there won’t be another 8000% increase in six month’s time!
