I spent the second half of last week out of the office and boy am I regretting it this morning. I’ve got a list of jobs as long as my arm and I haven’t a clue where to start. I also have half a dozen blog posts floating round my brain space.
Anyway, I wanted to start the week by saying hi (or giving a "big shout out" as I’m sure they say on Radio One) to a few of the people I met up with last week. On Wednesday night Lee Biggins (from CV-Library) and I hosted a mini suppliers networking evening at Motion Bar. I haven’t organised a networking event since November 2003 so this was a nice gentle reintroduction. I caught up with some old friends including Tim Elkington of Enhance (whose blog I always read), Don McIntosh of RecruitActive (you can see Tim and Don here – Don is in the middle and Tim is on the right), Marc Jones (who I started the networking events with back in 2002) and Stephen O’Donnell of alljobsuk (I’ll be mentioning his NORAS awards later in the week) as well as meeting some really intersting new contacts. I will write more about the benefits of networking with old and new contacts at a later date.
On Thursday I attended a researchers summit to write a review for the newsletter (which should be published in this Wednesday’s issue). Again I made some really interesting new contacts and put a few faces to names (including Claire Davies from AESC). I also got a load of ideas for useful articles for the newsletter.
On Friday I had some meetings with a client in Newbury and then made my way home (very nearly missing my train back to Devon!). You won’t be surpised to hear that I managed to squeeze the very last benefit from my trip – by networking on the train. You never know when you’re going to need to call on someone who specialises in organising camping trips for troubled teens!
Right, time to get back to my "to do" list.
