3 Reasons Why You Should be Using Recruitment Scripts

readWe’ve just started working with Guy Cohen and Adam Graff who are co-founders of Scriptomize.  Essentially they’ve created a huge collection of recruitment templates to help recruiters win more business and make more money.  Which, let’s be honest is up there in terms of recruiter goals.  This is Guy’s thoughts on why you should be using recruitment scripts.

“To script or not to script?” – I believe it was Shakespeare who first started this age old debate. A debate that not only grips the recruitment world but the whole sales universe.
Thanks Shakespeare :/

I’m joking of course, Shakespeare would’ve made a terrible recruiter… “wherefore art thou CV?”

But there are some good arguments for using and not using recruitment scripts.

After spending way too long in the recruitment industry, I’ve come to learn that the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

1. Sound Like an Expert…But Not a Robot

When we first developed our scripts, I can guarantee that the person on the other end of the phone knew that I was reading from a script.

I was a robot. And not a cool robot like R2D2, but an annoying recruitment one.

But after I’d used our scripts 40+ times/day, I could feel the areas that didn’t flow naturally.

So we changed the scripts and went again. And again. And again.

Removing all the generic recruitment cliches. Taking out all the complex words that nobody would use in normal conversation.

It took us years to refine and optimise our scripts. Now they’re at a level where no-one can tell that I’m reading from a script. I am no longer a robot!

This ‘formula’ for creating a perfect script is easy to follow but it does take time.

In time, you’ll have a script that’s structured in the way that a normal person would speak.

It will cover every single point you need to make in a concise, persuasive and professional way.

You’ll have zero “erms”. Zero waffle. You’ll sound confident. And you’ll make well-structured, logical points.

As a result, clients and candidates will immediately see you as credible and pay attention to what you’re saying.

This leads to more clients, higher fees and, most importantly, more money.

2. Create the Perfect Response

In order for a script to be created, it requires work. Boring work that will lead to more placements in the long-term, but requires us to invest a lot of our time upfront.

As recruiters and managers, how dare we focus on something that will not improve our monthly figures immediately?! Blasphemy!!

Creating a powerful recruiting script requires creative thinking, strong editing and clever structuring. And even after that, it needs to be constantly refined and optimised to make the biggest impact.

Thus, the perfect script is not created in an afternoon. Ours were created and tweaked over a period of 3 years. Some were deleted and completely re-made. Some are still being refined to this day!

But I can assure you that your investment of time into creating scripts will pay off.

Imagine if you or your recruiters had a powerful script for every possible situation. Perfectly worded and structured to pitch your services and overcome any objection.

I’ve lost count of how many times our scripts have overcome someone’s concerns. Persuading them to consider another opportunity, pay a retainer or accept our fees (which are 25%+).

3. Make Training Your Recruiters a Breeze

This is one of the biggest and most unexpected benefits we’ve found in creating scripts.

We have a script for everything. Introductions, objections, recommendations, references, we have it all.

Combine them all together and we have the perfect way to train a new recruiter, even if they have never been in recruitment before.

They can use these scripts and overcome objections like a recruiter who’s been doing it for 15 years.

Imagine applying this to your entire team. Instantly raising the recruiting IQ of all your recruiters to a consistently high level.

This consistency helps to battle those monthly fluctuations that nearly all recruiters go through.

And the best bit? That training literally requires zero time.

It makes your company infinitely more scalable. It allows you to outgrow the competition and gives you the time to focus on other areas of the business.

Conclusion

For us, creating scripts has revolutionised our recruiting business.

They have directly improved the quality of our recruiters’ recruiting (say that 3 times quickly), leading to more placements and more money.

The effort it takes to make a truly worthwhile script isn’t for everyone. But it is something that you should seriously consider if you want to take your recruiting to the next level.

If your recruiters offer a great service and have powerful scripts to overcome any situation… they’ll be unstoppable.
