Vacancy Informer

Hotlizard sent me a press release earlier this week about “a pioneering new web site” that gives recruiters access to the latest vacancies from corporate employers.  Now, I don’t want to be picky but I’m not sure you can call a concept that’s been done before pioneering.

This bit of pointless PR speak didn’t put me off looking at the site (www.vacancyinformer.com) and getting in touch with the creator; Grant Paskins.

It’s a very simple concept.  The website contains a searchable database with vacancy details across all sectors.  New vacancies are researched by Grant’s team and posted every day.  All the vacancies are from corporate website (none are trawled off job boards).  In the fullness of time Grant hopes that corporates will also go directly to Vacancy Informer with new vacancy requisitions to be added to the database as they go live.

To use the site you register as an agency and pay for a batch of vacancy credits.  You create your search and only pay for the vacancies you wish to “download”.

As I mentioned it’s not a new concept.  In fact whilst writing this blog I had a quick think and remembered three other companies in the UK offering a similar service.

However, what I like about the site is how transparent the information is.  The pricing information is readily available on the site and you can see exactly how many vacancies are in the database.

I personally believe that any recruiter worth his or her salt should be creating most of their vacancies via cold calling and business development within their niche market/geographic area.  However, I know there is an audience for this.  I regularly see postings on our forum and receive emails and calls from recruiters asking where they can source vacancies.  Also, If you are a recruiter with a fabulous candidate but no where to place them, a service like Vacancy Informer could be the tool to source the right client.

It’s still early days for Vacancy Informer but at least Grant has a nicely developed website, a simple concept and 16 years in recruitment behind him.
