You’ve probably seen this recent bit of news about “Job seekers warned over CV theft“.
iProfile (with the backing of the Police and the Information Assurance Advisory Council) created a fake website and “lured” 107 people into submitting their CVs. Of the 107 CVs, 61 contained enough information to apply for a credit card.
The irony for me was how often recruiters receive CVs without information to contact the candidate (no phone numbers) or to determine if they are a match for the role in question (missing job history, no “responsibilities” and “achievements”, etc). Is it because the jobseeker is too busy adding their social security numbers, date of birth (STILL!!) and the always present hobbies!
It’s an interesting stunt. Great press for iProfile – but also – surely terrible press – showing what people like them can do – steal peoples’ identities! Seems slightly strange to me.
Why do some people still feel the need to add pictures to CV’s? That is my pet peeve.
