Just watched this great little video clip from JuiceTDP about the most important things to remember when negotiating. I love the way they use these The Office type bits of footage to run into their formal training sessions; making something a bit dull (sorry guys!) like negotiating actually quite appealing. The key elements of successful negotiation are trust, confidence and knowing when to walk away.
However, what I wondered was whether one of these is more important than the others. Do you think that without a good client relationship (trust) you can’t even start to negotiate? If you have confidence in spades can you negotiate a good deal with anyone or is the real key knowing when to just step away from the table? To find out what recruiters think I’ve created a LinkedIn poll on that very question. Please let me know what YOU think!
PS, as soon as the words “know when to walk away” entered my head so did the sound of Kenny Rogers singing The Gambler – so here’s an extra video treat for you!
