Will your Boss Help you to Achieve your Career Dreams?

Is your boss the type of leader that will help you climb the career ladder? New research suggests more than half of UK employees (51%) believe their current boss plays an instrumental role in achieving their career dreams.

Getting to the top requires some serious hard work, and a good leader to guide you through your workplace development. Finding a good leader may prove to be difficult, as only 31% of the public would describe their boss in this way.

Close but not too close

Most employees are happy to be close to their boss, but not too close. There’s a fine line when it comes to bosses and friendships, and professionalism should always come out on top. This is evident from the new research, as 41% of employees admitted that they see their boss as a friend, but not a close one. Over 50% of people surveyed also admitted to feeling bullied by a boss throughout their careers.

According to the data from printing company TonerGiant, problem solving is what we’re most likely to do in order to impress our bosses, with 24% of employees doing this to win bosses over. Pay came out on top as one of the most difficult subject’s to approach with bosses, followed by mental health. Interestingly, 21% of 25-34 year olds said this was particularly hard.

  1. Pay – 19%
  2. Mental health – 15%
  3. Personal/family life – 14%
  4. Workplace bullying – 9%
  5. Meeting/missing deadlines – 7%
