Indeed are turning off free traffic, over 80% of firms don’t know about it

Earlier this month, we shared the news that Indeed are expected to turn off their free candidate traffic in the near future. Our research with recruitment consultancies on this topic has since revealed that a worrying number of firms are still unaware or unprepared for the change.

Loosing Indeed’s free organic traffic is likely to have a massive impact on staffing firms, due to both the amount of traffic Indeed currently provide and the effectiveness of the placements which it generates.

Our survey identified some concerning trends across the industry, suggesting that when Indeed does decide to pull the plug, the extent of its effects are likely to be huge.

Nearly three quarters of those who responded to our survey (71%) haven’t yet done anything to prepare for the change – and time is running out.

Although Indeed haven’t yet officially revealed when they’re planning to make the switch, most indications suggest that it could be anytime between tomorrow and January 2020. If Indeed switched off organic traffic tomorrow, would you be ready?

80% of respondents admitted to not being fully aware that the change was happening and what it meant for them. We’ve teamed up with Talent Nexus to host an online webinar to help provide more information about what this change means for you and what you can do about it. You can register to join the event here.

64% of consultancies said they were concerned about the impact that making this change will have on their organisations. If you too are concerned about what’s about to happen, here are your next steps:

  • Don’t make any changes to your current feed of jobs or submit a new feed, because Indeed have started to decline new feeds from agencies.
  • Find out how many candidates you receive from organic Indeed traffic, and how much placement revenue they generate. This is the money you stand to lose.
  • Look at how you would replace those candidates. Indeed.com are one of around 30 mainstream aggregators in the marketplace, so when you start paying for traffic you have plenty of options to consider. A programmatic recruitment ad agency can help you understand how much you need to invest to ‘make up’ for the loss of candidates.
  • Be ready EARLY. When Indeed.com turned off organic traffic for recruitment consultancies in the US, it led to a market-wide stampede as agencies clamoured to sign up with programmatic recruitment agencies. In the UK there are a relatively small number of agencies who specialise in this field, and you want to get setup before they get inundated.

In order to provide support, we’re currently partnering with Talent Nexus, the largest programmatic recruitment ad agency in the UK.
