7 Signs You’re a Stereotypical Recruiter

Have you ever:

  1. Phoned a company and used the line “have you got any vacancies”?
  2. Told your boss you have an offsite interview when you are really playing golf
  3. Sold a candidate into a job that you know isn’t right for them – just to get the fee
  4. “massaged” a candidate’s history to conceal something you think your client wouldn’t like
  5. Sent out a candidate’s CV to every single company you can think of (without their permission)
  6. Run your temp desk like a mother hen/wicked witch to manipulate your “girls/boys”
  7. Used any of these words on your marketing literature unique, bespoke, exclusive, professional, dynamic.. when you aren’t

Obviously, I’ve never worked with anyone like this 🙂 but if you have please feel free to leave a comment on any other signs you spotted

  1. I may have had a humour bypass due to the heat but not sure it’s helpful that a (I think) well known recruitment industry site peddles a bad image of the industry as a stereotype. Might it not have been better to title the piece “7 Signs You’re a Bad Recruiter?” Or “7 Signs You’re a Recruitment Dinosaur”?

I appreciate it may not be your sense of humour but I don’t think there is anything wrong with admitting that there is a recruitment stereotype. I’m certainly not endorsing it. If I thought there was the slightest chance I would tarnish the industry with my comments I wouldn’t have posted the blog.

Hiding the fact that this happens does not change the fact that it is a problem. Burying your head in the sand is not a solution so well done for looking at this in a humorous way Louise. 🙂
