UK Recruitment Blog of the Year 2015 WINNERS

Trophy2015BlogWinner_2015
This is our eight year of running the UK Recruitment Blog of the Year Awards and we’ve had a brilliant range of blogs to judge for 2015.  Before announcing the winners I want to thank everyone for their nominations as well as the judging panel and blog sponsors; hubbul, Sketch and idibu.

Our Chief Judge, Andy Headworth, said: The volume of blogs now in the UK for recruiting and HR is genuinely great to see. When judging this years UK Recruiter’s Blog Awards, I enjoyed reading so many new blogs with original and unique content and have actually added a good number of them to my own Feedly account. I hope this trend continues in the UK because a good blog is a great addition to a company’s website.

This year we took well over 200 nominations whittled them down to 18 finalists (you should check out this list as they are all excellent sites). So, now onto the winners:

Recruitment Agency Blog: Talentfield

Talentfield are a recruitment agency specialising in interim marketing talent.  They started their blog last November and now mostly blog about the practice of interim marketing, how to recruit successfully in this area.

Category Sponsor Martin Bramall, MD of idibu, said: Massive congratulations to Talent Field on winning the Recruitment Agency blog of the year award.  A consistently excellent read that engages and educates in equal measure. Well done!

Individual Agency Recruiter Blogger: Fast Track

The Fast Track blog is written by Mitch Sullivan; Mitch is a recruiter with over 25 years industry experience.   He writes about whatever the hell he likes, is massively opinionated but often hits the nail on the head.

Category Sponsor James Wylie, Managing Director of Sketch, said: It was great to see so many well written blogs of various topics, shapes and sizes. The ones that stood out for me struck the right balance between being fun and informative, and didn’t get caught up trying to be too corporate. I’m particularly chuffed to be presenting the award for my category as my favourite blog won it.

In-house Recruiter Blogger: HR Gem

Gemma Reucroft won this award last year too! She is an HRD in the healthcare industry and blogs on all things HR, social media and employment law.

Main sponsor hubbul’s Head of Content Ben Smith said; There’s no doubt that the standard of individual and in-house recruitment blogs is on the rise. The field of nominations was strong, and there wasn’t any shortage of top quality, engaging blogs. Hats off to the winners, who have shown the commitment, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to build, write and promote their content to such a wide audience. It was a pleasure to be involved, and hubbul look forward to congratulating the winners!

Recruitment Industry Supplier Blog: Barclay Jones and Social Talent

This category is one of the hardest to judge; we had a “shortlist” of nearly 50 blogs this year!  This year we have TWO winners, both scoring exactly the same points from our judging panel.  These winners are two absolutely excellent blogs in a very strong category of finalists.   The Barclay Jones blog is authored by Lisa Jones and her team and “gets recruiters thinking”.  The Social Talent blog was established by Jonathan Campbell but is now mostly authored by the Siofra Pratta and covers “the Good Stuff: how to’s, top 10’s, infographics & the world of recruitment”.

Judge, Stephen O’Donnell said: In judging this year’s UKRecruiter Blog Awards, I was taken with the very wide diversity of content being produced out in the recruitment industry. Amongst an avalanche of detritus are some real gems of well written insight. Regularly written relevant articles on the recruitment sector, that remain of a consistently high calibre are much rarer than you would imagine, and the winners in the UK Recruiter Blog Awards 2015 demonstrate precisely that.

Judge Simon Kent, said: Overall another great year for the blog awards. There’s a fantastic number of well-informed, practical and sometimes inspirational blogs out there. It’s also great to see that the vast majority of supplier bloggers understand the idea of using this platform to ‘blog’ ideas rather than to ‘flog’  products. It’s also been refreshing to see a variety of presentational approaches being taken by writers. The most successful are those who understand how to match form to content to get their message across in the most efficient and effective way.

Congratulations to all the winners and to the finalists.

Andy also shared these thoughts; While the quality was very high this year, for me there were three areas of improvement many of the blogs could do to improve their blogs for 2106. Firstly, many  blogs just used text based posts in a prescribed 3-500 words manner, using video and images break up the text and provide context to the post. Secondly, the post headlines were descriptive but not much else – more time should be taken constructing  better more attractive headlines. And thirdly, when writing your blog posts, write for your audience  (if you know it) – too many posts that I read through seemed to have no direction or visible objective for it being written in the first place, which makes me ask why it was written in the first place.

I will be contacting all the winners this week to ensure they get their trophies.

I’m absolutely thrilled that the Social Talent blog has been recognised by the industry at large like this. Thank you to all the judges and of course, to UKRecruiter.co.uk.
