How to get more people to turn up to your event

Working on the assumption that you have created an event that gives attendees what they actually want – from Hung’s brilliant Brainfood Live here are top tips from his event organising panel.

  • Charge for tickets. Everyone knows you get a better show up rate when someone has paid.
  • Send a reminder. Doh, obvious?  Create a series of reminders and include information the continues to remind attendees why they signed up.
  • Tease them with hints of the amazing content, cool giveaways and fabulous food.
  • Create pre-event engagement. Run polls, use a Twitter hashtag, take entries for a raffle  If you do a raffle – make sure you announce the winner at the end of the event to encourage attendees to turn up and THEN to stay.
  • Create a LinkedIn event and invite all the attendees to that too. Regularly publish content in that
  • Post frequent reminders on social media.
  • Make it easy for them to attend; share all the information they will need. Send travel information, parking information, etc.
  • Send a pre-event pack. Once your attendees have someethign in their hand they’ll feel more committed.
  • Encourage attendees to book meetings ahead of time, to take place at the networking element of your event.
  • Organise a post (or pre) event networking event. Tie them in to another element of the event and encourage them to come along.
  • Use text reminder’s as well as email the day before the event.
  • Tie them in. Get attendees to pre-book their lunch, their workshops, etc.  Get them to make concrete commitment.
